Extended Validation

The highest level of validation with rigorous identity verification

Validation Types

Extended Validation (EV) certificates represent the highest level of authentication available for SSL certificates. The validation process involves extensive verification of the organization's legal, physical, and operational existence according to strict guidelines established by the CA/Browser Forum.

This includes verifying the organization's legal registration, confirming the physical address through various methods, validating the applicant's authority to request the certificate, and conducting phone verification with the organization. The EV validation process typically takes 1-2 weeks to complete. EV certificates provide the strongest visual security indicator in web browsers - they display the organization's name prominently in the address bar (historically in a green bar, though modern browsers have evolved their display methods).

EV certificates are essential for high-value websites such as banking, e-commerce, and other applications where maximum user trust is critical. They help protect against phishing attacks by providing clear organizational identification that users can verify before entering sensitive information.
